Major: Sports Media

Years at IU: 2015-2018

What I did at IU: Spent two years with the Indiana Daily Student as a beat reporter for multiple sports, as well as sports editor and social media editor. I also worked for one year as IUSTV men’s basketball beat reporter, and for 3 1/2 years as a BTN Student U broadcaster primarily for women’s basketball, baseball and field hockey. I helped create thehoosiernetwork.com with three other sports Media School students, with emphasis on digital content. With the “HN,” I shot video, reported on games, wrote, podcasted and edited — all while learning how to run a website. I also took a part-time job helping the Indiana Pacers with social media content and post-game reports during my senior year.

What I do now: Social Media Content for the Cleveland Indians.

What advice I have for sports media students: Don’t be afraid to try different things when you’re in college. You essentially have four years to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible in order to figure out what direction you want to go post-graduation. If you work hard, ask questions, show up early and often and improve everyday, people will notice, and you will only get more opportunities because of that.
