Sarah Beeson

Major: Sport Communication – Broadcast; Minor: Journalism

Years at IU: 2011-2015

What she did at IU: Sports Director, IUSTV; Sideline Reporter, Big Ten Student U; Videographer, Scout.com; Delta Gamma Sorority

What she does now: I work in Club Business Affairs at the National Hockey League. I manage an array of areas that touch team and League business, including Line of Sight assets at the local and national level, vetting up and coming categories (most recently Sportsbook and Crypto/NFT), and most recently supporting the internal team who lead in creating the NHL COVID Protocols. In addition, I support all of our League women’s hockey initiatives, which included executing our first Elite Women’s 3-on-3 game at the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Event.

What advice she has for sports media students: Network, network network. No one you meet will be “too small” or “too big.” Additionally, dip your toes in every aspect of the sports world. Take a class in Marketing and Management, Sports Business, and Finance. The more knowledge you bring to the table about the sports world and business as a whole, the more marketable and desirable you will be. Make yourself a jack of all trades.
