What he did at IU: The Indiana Daily Student consumed most of my life outside of classes. Over the course of four years I covered men’s basketball, football, baseball and the Little 500.

What he does now: I’m a senior editor on The Athletic’s breaking news team. I help write stories on major news across all sports and work directly with reporters for in-depth analysis. I additionally oversee all content related to mixed martial arts and boxing coverage at the site, writing pieces and running live blogs.

What advice he has for sports media students: Network as much as possible with alumni and/or people you admire in the business. They’ll provide advice and potentially help you to get a foot in the door. It’s crucial in an industry where one job opening could have hundreds of similar applicants.

Find writers with a style and voice you enjoy and devour their work. The more you read, the better your writing will be.
