Greg Rosenstein

Hometown: Annandale, VA

Major: Journalism

Years at IU: 2007 – 2011

What he did at IU: The Indiana Daily Student consumed most of my life outside of classes. Over the course of four years I covered men’s basketball, football, baseball and the Little 500.

What he does now:┬áI’m the MMA editor for ESPN.com. I work with writers (and occasionally write) to cover everything the sport has to offer. This includes fight previews/recaps, features on fighters, news and more. For example, my team spent months hitting every angle of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight. I was in Las Vegas during that week coordinating coverage.

What advice he has for sports media students:┬áNetwork as much as possible with alumni and/or people you admire in the business. They’ll provide advice and potentially help you to get a foot in the door. It’s crucial in an industry where one job opening could have hundreds of similar applicants.

Read as much as possible. Find writers with a style and voice you enjoy and devour their work as much as possible.
