Major: Sport Marketing & Management (with business minor)
Years at IU: 1994-98
What you did at IU: I worked in the Sports Information Department for IU Athletics, assisting with media relations for IU Soccer, Baseball, Wrestling, Basketball and Football. More importantly, met my wife there, too!
What you do now: President, National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum
What advice you have for sports media students?: Get as involved as you can, as early as you can. I was fortunate enough to land an internship with the Dodgers after my freshman year and getting started that quickly set me on the right path for my entire career. It was there that I received the incredible advice to learn Spanish, which I did by studying abroad in Spain and that remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Working in sports and media isn’t for everyone – the hours are long, the pay isn’t anywhere as much as your business school friends will make out of college, but if you love what you’re doing, none of that will matter in the long run.
